Electronic Terms and Measurements
Not sure about one of the terms in our calculators? Find quick answers in the table below!
Resistance
| Opposition to current flow. Basic unit is the ohm (Ω) | |
|---|---|
| 1 kilohm - kΩ | 1,000 or 1x103 ohms |
| 1 Megohm - MΩ | 1,000,000 or 1x106 ohms |
Voltage
| Electromotive force. Basic unit is the volt (V) | |
|---|---|
| 1 millivolt - mV | 1/1,000 or 1x10-3 volt |
| 1 microvolt - μV | 1/1,000,000 or 1x10-6 volt |
Current
| Movement of electricity. Basic unit is the ampere (A) | |
|---|---|
| 1 milliampere - mA | 1/1,000 or 1x10-3 ampere |
| 1 microampere - µA | 1/1,000,000 or 1x10-6 ampere |
Frequency
| Number of cycles per second. Basic unit is the hertz (Hz) | |
|---|---|
| 1 kilohertz - kHz | 1,000 or 1x103 hertz |
| 1 Megahertz - MHz | 1,000,000 or 1x106 hertz |
| 1 Gigahertz - GHz | 1,000,000,000 or 1x109 hertz |
Frequency
| Basic unit is the second (s) | |
|---|---|
| 1 millisecond - ms | 1/1,000 or 1x10-3 second |
| 1 microsecond - μs | 1/1,000,000 or 1x10-6 second |
| 1 nanosecond - ns | 1/1,000,000,000 or 1x10-9 second |
Operating Life for Capacitors
| Where operating life is given at a certain temperature, for every drop of 10 °C life expectancy will double. |
|---|
| If life expectancy is 1,000 hours at 105°C |
| this would double to 2,000 hours at 95°C |
| and double again to 4,000 hours at 85°C |
